The town and resort


Alcudia in the North of the Island is the largest area of tourism in Mallorca. It is particularly popular with families, couples and younger tourists especially in peak summer months. The area of Alcudia itself is vast and within that is the historic market town of Alcudia and Puerto de Alcudia.


The journey from Palma Airport takes around 1 hour by car or taxi and has improved greatly since the development of the motorway and dual carriageway which takes you straight to the resort. There are many public transport options and car hire can be arranged online before you arrive.

Accommodation


Since the 80s tourist boom, the resort area has increased greatly in size to cope with demand. You will find many Hotels and Apartments of all sizes and categories.

Many hotels are found close to the main road, some along the vast beach area and others dotted around the various small lakes and waterways. The Bellvue Club complex is on the lefthand side as you drive into the resort heading towards the port. This is the one of the largest hotel-holiday resorts in Europe and has proved very popular over the years.


Many tour operators offer all-inclusive package holidays to this area however there are plenty of hotels and apartments who offer accommodation-only options.

You will find two Tourist Offices, one at the Port and the other in Alcudia village near to the Church.


The offices provide all the local information you will need for your holiday together with other useful information from around the Island of Mallorca.

The area has some excellent attractions and interesting places to explore if you are looking for some thrills and excitement to add to your holiday.


You will find 2 taxi ranks, one beside the Port and the other at the far end of the beach.


There are 2 Chemists in the area, one in the centre of the Historic Alcudia and the other near the Bellvue Club.

Alcudia is renowned for its vast beautiful white sandy beaches, particularly enjoyed by families. The 10km stretch have plenty of sunbeds and parasols for hire. Lifeguards are on duty at various points on the beaches

Where to Eat


Puerto Alcudia has a multitude of restaurants, cafes, bars to choose from especially along the strip leading into the resort and also many in the old town.


You will find everything from traditional Spanish and Mallorquin cuisine to American Steakhouses which are very popular in this area. You will also find Indian and Chinese food, not forgetting many British Bars and Restaurants. You will be spoiled for choice of where to dine in this area.

alcudia shaded streetBoth Alcudia and Puerto Alcudia are relatively flat and therefore ideal for tourists with disabilities. If you need any special equipment, you can arrange to hire items such as wheelchairs, walking aids etc for delivery to your hotel or apartment.







Local Shops and Market



The Historic Walled Town

alcudia walled townThe local Alcudia markets are held in the streets in and around the historic walled old town which is approx 2km from the Port. There are two market days, Tuesdays and Sundays. The market starts at the square and flows around the ancient streets to the church.

You can drive to the Market easily from Puerto Alcudia, there are several parking options there or you could take a local bus or short taxi trip.

On Friday mornings you will find a market at the Port, the 'Hippy Market' is held several evenings a week the Summer months.

Getting Around


Car Hire is easily available within the resort area and Port from hotels or trip offices. However you might prefer to hire a car from the internet and collect it from Palma Airport when you arrive. Alcudia has a very good public transport network if you want to get around the Island.

You can travel to the area direct from the Airport on an airport resort bus however the times are limited. Alternatively you can take the Palma Airport Bus to the station at Plaza de Espana where you can change for a bus direct to Alcudia. You find other ways to get around the Island in our guide.



Nearby places of interest


S'Albufera Nature Reserve

S'Albufera nature reserve

You can visit the Nature Reserve of S'Albufera in the nearby resort of C'an Picafort.

This is the largest wetland area in Mallorca which stretches across 1708 hectares and is visited by birdwatchers from all over the world.

If you enjoy nature, rambling or bird watching we would recommend visiting the park where you will see an amazing variety of species of birds.
