If you are staying near to Cala Ratjada we recommend a visit to Capdepera Castle. You have to be fit to climb the long way to top, however the superb views over the town, countryside and sea make it very worthwhile. On a completely clear day, from the top Ramparts, you can see over to the Island of Menorca. You will see the very fine Castle as you approach Capdepera from all directions.
Capdepera Castle was built in the early 1300s on the highest peak in the land. Through the ages, it guarded the region from enemy and pirate attacks. You can walk along the Castle ramparts, through the grounds where you can see ruins of ancient houses and finally visit a beautiful ancient Church.
Following your visit to the Castle, you could make a stop at one of the Cafes or Restaurants in the quaint town square at the foot of the steps.
A popular Medieval Market Event is held at the Castle for a few days during May. This is an excellent event where tourists and locals enjoy the various artesan stalls, dancing and music.
