The Resort - who visits Magaluf?

If you were to ask people to sum up Magaluf as a resort, most would say young lively people, great clubs, fantastic nightlife, party atmosphere and above all don't go if you are looking for a quiet holiday.

While these opinions are still characteristic of Magaluf, the resort has been undergoing considerable changes in order to alter this image. The Balearic Government have an ongoing regeneration plan in order to attract more families and couples to the resort. A tremendous amount of effort and funds have been spent on the project and only time will tell if the plan is a success.

Today, Magaluf remains as the top holiday destination for young British Tourists and for pre-wedding Stag and Hen groups. However although the resort is still known for its amazing nighlife, strict controls are now in place to keep order and decency in the resort.

Magaluf grew in popularity when young holidaymakers, mainly from Britain, flocked there from the early 1970s. As tourism continued to boom, more Apartments and Hotels were built to cope with the enormous demand thus increasing the size of the resort as a whole.

Magaluf flows from the Torrenova area alongside Palmanova and extends all the way to the Western Waterpark with Katmandu more or less in the centre of the resort.

How do I get to the resort from the Airport?

From Palma Airport you can take a taxi direct to the resort for around 45 euros. This is ideal if there are more than 3 persons travelling. Note that there is an additional charge for night journeys and luggage, see more on these fares.

A cheaper transport option is to use the direct public bus to the resort which operates from the Airport hourly. Depending on when you arrive you can also take the No1 Palma Bus to the Intermodal Station at the Plaza de Espana and change for a TIB (Transport Illes Baleares) bus 104, 106 which will take you to the resort. If you have a very late flight arrival, when local buses are not running you might try booking a private mini-bus transfer. This can be economical if you are travelling in a large group.

There are plenty of sunbeds and parasols for rent as well as all kinds of watersports such as ski-ing, windsurfing, kite-surfing, bananaboat, waker board and you could even try scuba diving

The pedestrian walkway (Paseo Maritimo) with many upmarket bars and restaurants runs parallel to the beach.

What is Balconing?

Magaluf along with a couple of other resorts in Mallorca, have had problems due to tourists Balconing. This term is used when people, normally following heavy drinking, jump or climb between balconies or in some cases jump or drive towards a swimmingpool. This has resulted in many deaths and some horrific life-changing injuries.

Drinking huge volumes of alcohol day and night together with dehydration seems to be the root of this problem.

If you should have an issue during your stay in Mallorca you can contact the Consulate in Palma for help or advice.
